[Anniversary]

Every page that turns,
Tears off at its fringes
The time elapsed
Feels more like an ellipsis
Though nothing quite complicit
In the way things tapered off,
No one could help but elicit
Such differential thought

Some things come together,
The rest frays up and falters
Sometimes it's irrational
We do it anyway
Everyone's indentured to the things that keep us safe,
And make us sane

Overthinking understatements
How to know which perspective's valid?
Outpour of introversion
Guess it's just a force of habit
Sink or swim, they did you in
So how long can you tread water?
Eventually the tide rolls in
And doesn't that shoreline look so candid?

Nothing is for certain
That is for sure
Take a deep breath of the thin air
Some kind of permanence,
It makes most nervous
But I guess I could give it a try

Take a look around
Things were this bad, maybe worse this time last year
Remember relief
And wherever you found it
It'll come back
It'll come back soon I swear
Proceed with caution; handle with care
Take a deep breath of the thin air
Soak up your surroundings
Douse yourself in dark
And keep on dancing
