A New Home and New Adventure!

A New Home and New Adventure!

A Chapter by Howling_Wolf

My story starts in a car traveling to our new temporary home. There is me, Danielle, and my Mom and Dad. My Dad's job requires us to move a lot now. This time he rented a house instead of a apartment with a big yard and everything. We arrived at this older style farm house.

"This is our new home."  Dad proclaimed, exiting the car.

It looks amazing dear; better then you described. I can't wait to grow some roses in our front yard." Mom says, trying too look on the bright side of things.

"I'm sure we won't be here that long Mom."

I didn't feel like bringing in the box's inside right away. So I started to walk around the property, and I found this old abandoned, dry well. The well walls were made of mismatch rock ,and I'm guessing hard clay it had  a wooden roof. When I walked closer, I saw something hidden under the overgrown grass.

" Mom! Dad! Come over and look at this; I found something "

" What is it, Danielle? " Dad said, sounding slightly worried.

" I found this old, dry well and this really old sign with funny writing on it."

"Let me have a look, Danielle." Mom said, as she cleans the moss and clumps of dirt wedged into the letters, " it is written in German."

"Can you read it, Mom?"

"Danielle, your mother's grandmother was German, and your mom can speak it quite fluently."

"It has been many years, but I will see." Mom looked like she taking a cleaning cloth to get rid of the cobwebs in her head." Ich widme  dies auch, wo meine Tochter war gefallen in und starb, nicht mehr ein gut für Wasser, aber der Träume. Träume, die meine Tochter nie eine  Change gehabt  haben."

"What does it mean, Mom?"

"Roughly translated it means:' I dedicate this well, where my daughter had fallen in and died, to no longer be a well for water, but of dreams. Dreams that my daughter never had a chance to have.' It is technically a wishing well and a grave marker. Probably nobody knew how to read German, and left it to rot."

"Mom, Dad, could we go into town, and buy some flowers to place here?"

"Sure honey, we can do that."

After we brought everything we owned into the house; we into town for a bite to eat. We also picked up some flowers for the well. I felt sorry for the girl who died in that well, and I started to ask myself some questions. How old was she? What was her favorite color? What were her parents like? And I wonder if she is a ghost or in heaven?
Because Dad job requires him to move ever once in a while; I'm used to going to a new school every year or so. On the way to school I found a quarter, Jackpot. Everyday after school, I would spend a little time cleaning up the overgrown grass, and removed the ivy. Mom and Dad started  helping out. They went to the hardware store for wood to replace the rotten roof, and caulking to repair the walls. It took about 2 weeks, and it was good as new.
On the way to school I found a quarter, Jackpot.
One day, I went to the well because I had a dream about it. I saw water at the bottom of it. The water sparkled just like mom's wedding ring. I told Mom and Dad, and they were just as surprised as I was.

"I called some of the parents at the school, and I invited them to bring their kids to celebrate your birthday this week. You only turn thirteen once and it's a big milestone.  They sounded really excited about it. Now is their anything you want special for your birthday?" Mom said.

"Can you make a cake like grandma used to make?" I asked

"I wish I could Pumpkin, but Mom never shared that recipe with anyone." Mom said, looking away for a minute; before getting back to do the dishes.

"I see, Mom."

To be honest, the only thing I wanted for my birthday was a piece of grandma chocolate cake, with made-from-scratch buttercream frosting. She always made a cake for my birthday, even though she wasn't feeling well. When she passed away two years ago, my birthday started feeling  not so special.

I decided to hangout by the well, and pull up weeds. I started talking to myself.  I said, ' the only thing I wanted was a slice of Grandma's cake.'

I remembered at school I found a quarter laying on the ground. I decided to try and wish for grandma cake to appear on my birthday. I didn't think it would work. Then the day for the party was here.

This was my first story trying to use a different language. I used Google translator, but not sure if its 100% correct. If anyone actual speaks German let me know if it is correct.
