* Life is hard *

* Life is hard *

A Poem by Relic

A hard life must be endured.
Days, weeks, years, feel like ice
and cracks are increasing.

People are falling like sleet from mass murders.
Parents shouldn't have to worry
about their children in school!

Relationships are getting like unsolvable
one-thousand piece puzzles.
Women have been burned by boyfriends.
They feel like the pits of a discarded plumbs.
Boyfriends are baffled and bewildered.

Social media, inaccurate and fabricated
correlates to fake christmas tree ornaments.
Attention spans are decreasing.
Unhappiness rising,
we can't put our phones down.

Gas, food and oil prices
leave me frigid.

They can send rockets to space
but still can't cure cancer.

There are too many people
with mental health problems.

Life is hard,
for some, much too hard,
ask the people of Ukraine.

Life isn't just unfair, at times, it's evil.
The ice feels too thick
as it dangles from the roof
of endurance.

If there were only answers,
if there were only a way to fix it.
You might wish the past had been different,
or that YOU were different.

Seasons are a series of summits and valleys,
but those valleys are brutal,
callous, and cold.

Who would not yearn to scream?

So we poets pick up pens
even if only to spill our guts
not knowing if anyone cares;
not knowing if our dilemmas
will ever defrost and disappear.

But we spill ink, that's what we do,
even if dolts around us don't understand,
or think it ludicrous.

Even if WE don't understand.

Keep writing,
Keep spilling,
Keep yourself from falling through, friend.

Keep vigilant, it's got to get better
someday, somehow.

You're not alone.

We're not alone.

Hardly ever.

Thanks very much for your thoughts, Cassie. :)
Wonderful write, Relic! Personally, I believe there are a number of reasons why society is as it is today. We took God out of everything because it offended a few people. Most mothers HAVE to work these days so aren't home to supervise their children. Although, some mothers are able to work and keep their children in-line and provide good moral codes and guide them to what is right and wrong. So much of the issues today stem from not providing the social necessities at home. I could go on and on but, will save the space for others. In the meantime, us poets should continue to observe and "feel" the world around us and write about it. Thank you! Temp

You are welcome my friend.
A fantastic write, my friend, that echoes so many of my own feelings. "Parents shouldn't have to worry about their kids in school." But maybe, just maybe, a lot of those parents who weren't worried about their kids at all enough to take an interest, enough to read the signs, enough to make time in their busy schedules to be parents instead of just breadwinners or pals, maybe there wouldn't be so many school shooters. Maybe. I watch quite a few reality criminal shows where the kids just have no parental supervision and end up committing all sorts of horrendous crimes against other kids or their parents. I can see a pattern of neglect and the worst sort of acting out to garner attention or approval within a social click. It's so sad but society often has to pay for the absence of parental concern. My brother who passed away in 2015 worked most of his adult life as a staff psychologist at Central Prison in Raleigh, N.C. He told the same sort of stories about many of the murderers, rapists and habitual criminals that he came in contact with through his work. Almost every single one of them had a horror story about an unhappy home-life and problems with parent-child relationships they claimed to have driven them to their current state. Of course, none of them wanted to take personal responsibility for their actions either which would have earned them the sentence they were serving. But I believe there is at least a connection in upbringing and nurturing related to the way young adults view the world around them. Broken homes often harbor broken psyches, broken dreams, crushed hopes, broken lives and desperation. Oh, I don't claim to know the answers, I just have lingering questions that I don't think are being asked often enough. I enjoyed your thought provoking write. Keep doing what you do. You do it too well to ever stop. F.

Hi Relic,
When one loves to write it really does take over. It allows the poet to express themselves freely. Without limitations...
When I was young my father, who read a poem I wrote at the age of 10, said that I was like his father ... who was a philosopher...at that time I had absolutely no idea what that meant.
Now I do understand and it makes perfect sense to me. I contemplate life and I do think that most poets do the same. I believe that writing helps introverts open up as they explore the many possibilities of life..

I agree, Lisa. Introverts and writers seem to be more sensitive to the world around them. Thanks for.. read more

Wonderfully written, Relic. I share your sentiments. For those of us who a predominantly introverts, the world occurs primarily in your heads, and the only way to make it real is to write about it. Gee, I can't imagine why that seems weird to extraverts. :-)

ha, nor can I, W. Thanks for the comment. :)
Yes, all creative writers should keep writing, even if they take time away from it all now and then. Maybe we can't change the world, but we can let our thoughts and feelings be known. Perhaps most people won't care, but there will always be someone out there who WILL read, and who WILL listen, and who WILL care!
