A Toast to The Raven and Poe

A Toast to The Raven and Poe

A Poem by Relic

Edgar Allan Poe's Death: His Final Tragic Mystery | Historic Mysteries

Tonight, I'll drink a sweet amount
of words before I'm through.
To savor each and every rhyme
that spills within my view.
I'm sure, 'The Raven,' penned by Poe
goes down like chardonnay.
At midnight, I intend to taste
this bittersweet bouquet.
I hear the dark bird so proclaims
a dark macabre surmise.
Or is it some sardonic wit
foreshadowed in disguise?
~
I've chosen to peruse each word
with candle and chablis,
Before tomorrow's fate befalls
lovely Annabelle Lee.

Edgar is one of the fathers of gothic literature. There are many ghost stories about him, where he is buried in Baltimore. They even named their football team after his story.

It did, Einstein. Thanks for the kind comment.
Nice work Tim, yes how often does artists works become popular, in demand, famous, a success only after they die. The only exception to the rule is my works won’t be famous after I pass away lol. And that’s probably a good thing. 😀

Neither will mine, haha Thanks for checking it out, andrew.
I have read Poe wrote parts of "The Raven" at a hotel on an island in The Great Dismal Swamp, not far from where I live. The man was depressed and short of money for much of his adult life, and the circumstances of his death are still subject to debate. I would love to be able to write as well as he did, but I wouldn't like to have lived as he did.
