Two toddlers wore rain

Two toddlers wore rain

A Poem by Relic

In the yard, in the fog
of a heavy downpour

two toddlers wore the rain
like tight-fitted jeans

which clung to them so soggy, and yet ~

in moments of glee
with a spin and a spree

they giggled and laughed
a thousand thuds

as each thundering thud
of their shiny red boots

forced a violent splatter.
But what does it matter?

For youth is but a moment
cleaved to a cloth

made of exquisite fabric
that creates a future memory

What a lovely write! I especially like your closing lines...(youth is a moment cleaved to the cloth made from the fabric of future memories.) That is such a fabulously poetic thought! ~Sharon

Thanks so much for your comment, Miss Sharon. It's much appreciated.
We adults could take a lesson from children as pictured in this offering. The two kids depicted here are able to enjoy simple things like playing in the rain. There is no need to posture, to compare or compete, just mutual enjoyment in the present moment. Somehow that marvelous ability gets hijacked by the years, replaced by worry, envy, resentment and a host of other things. I mean, really, can you imagine Putin playing in the rain?

I could almost feel the water splatter as the kids spun in a puddle. Brought memories to mind of sprinklers and hoses and not caring about weather... And the future.

I appreciate your thoughts, Avenlight. Welcome to Writers Cafe. :))
The innocence of playing in the rain... While it was never a pastime of mine, I have seen it. And this should be left as is. The images are so sweet and accurate. Nicely done.

You are welcome! I enjoyed it!
Absolutely true and right on the money. I like how you compare that to worn and faded clothes as the fabric of life and living.
Title is intriguing but wonderful. I think the author is showing us that two toddlers can grow to experience things different even if they are the same elements.

An excellent one Mr. Relic...
