A mile to go

A mile to go

A Poem by Relic

City life sketch, Georg Hilmarsson | Life sketch ...

Reflections of a rainy city day

W
ith smog
Hovering among
Crevices
Of a sleepy city

The sun rose
From slumber
Heedful of rain
On the way.

Soon,
As increasing showers
Diffused puddles
On shiny streets

Birds in flocks
Flew.

Car windshields
Clattered.

And a lonely reveler,
Tired from the night before,
Braving every soggy step,
Could only contemplate
The last call,
The last beer,
And the girl who left
With someone else.

Having no umbrella
And a mile to go,

The sky
Employing harsh wisdom
Reflected his pain.

Gee
Been there a few times in my drink fuelled misspent youth, and then a hangover to match the weather.
Enjoyed the read Relic.
Hope Christmas has been "okay" without your father

Thank you for your thoughts, Gee. My father passed on Oct 29. He's in a better place though, that's .. read more
I hope that last beer was worth the lonely walk in the rain for that guy. Alas, what was left unmentioned was he had on a wedding ring that cheating cad. Just kidding, this was actually a very nicely written piece. The dreary cold environment a good metaphor for the lonesome guy down out of his luck. Very striking image Relic. I probably would have weasel my way into getting one last drink from the bartender. I would rather be drunk and miserable, then cold drunk and miserable.
