Writers Cafe - Once in a while, they still come back.

A Poem by Relic

Once in a while,

as though pulled in by some desire
or force,
some decide to take a ride back
to Writers Cafe.

It's not always a long visit, yet
they still come back
as though returning to their old home.

"I remember Robbie,
or Marie, or Frieda P," they might say.

They may recall this place in a way one might remember
flags that lined porches
or trees on each side of the street where they lived.
But still, they remember this place.
Their names are still on the mailbox.

For better or worse, this is a community.

Some have moved on, as they should.
And some are still here, pruning nouns
or mowing verbs.

Some have even died.

The street may look different.
Trees may be bigger.
And old friends may be gone for good.

But on this block,
you're never turned away
no matter how long you've been gone
or how many times you move on.

There will always be opportunities to write about
the sun, the rain, a train...

Writers Cafe
on this block, once in a while,
they still come back.

Well, one of the new ones here. So far it doesn't look like the other sites I've been on.. Wattpad and writing.com.. Grrrrrr everything is about paying for getting advertised and the a*s kissing..

Don't care for that stuff, sooo after some exploration I decided on this site

We'll see how it goes.

That was pretty cool and really strikes me. If you go through my poetry you'll see that half the new stuff is about or inspired by, collaborated with and beautifully reviewed by poets in the cafe. It has changed my life. And too often I'll come around to read someone and they're gone. And it surprises me how much that has come to mean. And other experiences my friends here have shared about the poets here. You hit my spot with this one!

Relic, your poem speaks a lovely truth. I have wandered back to the neighborhood recently, and it is indeed very much like coming home. Hope you are well.

I am, and I hope you are to. Thanks very much for your thoughts, Rita.
I am a relative newbie by some of the standards here. Wow, some have been around fifteen years or so. I had hardly got into writing them. This is a second home. Good to pop in with a cuppa every now and then when I have free time in my busy schedule. Lots of great poets here. Thank you Tim. Was good to read all the other comments.

ha, thanks for reading Matt.
Ah, I just checked in after a while and this one was the first in my feed 😅
I miss being here, but sadly life has taken over... I do come here quietly to read but have felt out of words lately.
Reading this brought back memories. Good one, Tim.

What a wonderful poem, sincere to the last letter! In spite of the ups and down of trolls and strange goings on, there is a sense of friendship especially at those special moments in the cafe.. Have to say there are folk who have gone, for whatever reason who i really miss. Freida, Ed Hart , Yumna, John l. , Island Hippy, 'j' , Robin.. - and more. Where they are - who knows, but they left a bright memory box of light, great poetry and warmth. Rather as you have.

I really like this! I think most can relate to it, as I can. I have been in and out of here for years now. When I come back, it feels comfortable and I hope to see people from before and I enjoy seeing new ones. It's like going home and knowing that someone is always there!

I can understand your feelings, Donna. Thank you for your comment.
Wow, so true. Golden write. We do recall a poet and poetess, but do we recall their poetry? Due to the fact that it is thru ones writing's that they are known, not merely by pen name or profile pictures. We're all just Angel's writing on the wall, but that doesn't have to be a bad thing. Wonderful poetry. Tyfs
