A Tavern of Empty Voices

A Tavern of Empty Voices

A Poem by Relic

Devoted patrons
have chosen to stay home
and melt like ice cubes in glasses.

Most days here,
the sun, in its lazy mood,
mopes across the floor
to occupy chairs, or corners,
....but says nothing.

It only displaces a cacophony
of voices, and intoxicated crooners.

The upturned bar stools
reflect a world
gone upside down.

When it rains,
this empty room
is like clouds with heavy eyes on tap,
toasting down another drink
to sorrow and uncertainty.

There is a pub directly opposite my home and a bookmakers 3 doors down. Usually my street is crammed with cars and people walking about until late at night and now it is almost deserted ... mostly mine is the only car parked on a very quiet and empty street now.
Yes, it's lovely that i can find a parking space but oh so strange that the pub is deserted and desolate.

Gregarious people find it a sad state of affairs. Thank you, Stella. R.
I agree my friend.

reflect a world upside down."
I miss my Jazz clubs. The closed down world more hard for the children. Happy New Year my friend. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

Wow what great way to describe lockdown period. The upturned barstools perfectly described the upside down lives of ours! It's a pity that we are again heading towards it... But we can hope this new year will bring some respite from this... You are a prolific writer in describing the imagery

Thank you, Dreamer. You're very kind. I wish you a happy new year, also. :)
So many owners freaking out as the doors stay closed to all but mounting bills as they try to stay afloat, with no sight of a lifeline.
And the customers of yore are missing their refuge too... No more happy place to go to, to destress and I wonder if they remember my name, 'cos I'm starting to forget it now 😉
I miss those big tip smiles.
