Like Cheetahs...

Like Cheetahs...

A Poem by Relic
"

First in a while.

"
like cheetahs
hunting in the savannah
writers often stalk or flush out expression
before it flits away.

words, Ideas, phrases,
camouflaged or spotty
hide
but not forever

through diligence
and hard work
they can be rushed into the open
unsheltered and exposed
until they're seized.

capture your prey my friend
devour it
taste its blood
until there's nothing left
but bones.

I've been there, Sue. Thanks for the read.
Hah!

I've been more like a lazy tom cat, biding my time 'til everyone re-emerges and splashes romantic, adventurous, and star-crested ink all over the world again.
I will, admit, however, much to the spirit of all our illustrious poetesses and poets on the Café, we've been blessed more than many of the other sites I serve on.
When it comes to metaphor and originality, Brother Tim, you take second place to no one.
This's so brilliant, even my ink is turning green with envy. 😏
Spot-on line breaks and syntax highlight this fetching Free Verse, not to mention the dyn-o-mite entertainment factor!

Thanks for all your great help on the Hunter story; we need more like you here!
Good stuff, Tim … really good! ⁓ Richard 🍃

ha, Thanks Robert.
I am certainly not feeling like a Cheetah nowadays....more like a lazy lion basking under a tree, waiting for the words to come to me. Such are some days on the poetic savannah. A very original metaphor to describe the writing process, Relic. 💛

Thanks Marina. :)
I like this metaphor very much. Thinking about the movement of a cheetah and how I go about turning a thought into a poem. Yes, it's a chase, you are in for the hunt and you aren't satisfied until the page is printed. Good to read Tim.

Thanks very much, Chris.
I just hate that I need to pounce at four in the morning to get the poem down.
I like the idea of the Cheetah though. After this pandemic is over I'll be the Cheetah sprinting to the nearest bar.

LOL glad to hear that Paul. :) Thanks.
That thrill of the chase, the taste of blood, the euphoric feeling can only likened to that of the Cheetah. Enjoyed this poem and the message therein, absolutely!

Appreciate your thoughts, thanks.
I absolutely love this. I can find so much meaning in this. The way you describe the writers need to pounce on each creative thought is mesmerizing. At the same time I can also find a symbolism to life. Very well written. Thank you for sharing. Best wishes to you.
