Emily Dickenson's dreaming of Amherst.

Emily Dickenson's dreaming of Amherst.

There's a big old steel gate around her grave
Though It makes no difference - crypt or cave
'Cause clocks won't tell the time of day
To those that sleep in dirt or clay.

It's dark - it's deep - what's small will creep.
From the depths of soil on thee they'll heap
As one takes the long nap in their plot
Where quarters are tight, like it or not.

An interesting little rhyming piece that seems to say that where she lays is of no consequence as she is dead and there she must stay! In a way sad as many now revere her since her passing and thus she walks beyond that grave.

Well said, John. Thanks.
Nothing tickles me more than a happy cadence in a sad line of truth weaved to sublime rhyme!

I'm glad you liked it, Robert. Thanks.
Loved the rhyming in this. Many of ED's poems had to do with death and are brief, just like this one. Reflects the same outlook. Well done.

Thank you for reading, Anne.
Even if no one comments, you have written a wonderful, passionate poem about/to one of my favorite poets__ Emily Dickinson.... I think I heard her sigh as I read .... nicely done Relic...

Thank you.
Haven't been on for a while but came on and found this; so glad I did! Emily wrote of death and knew that she'd meet it one day or another. I like your words, the image of her tombstone along with the style, and rhyme pattern!
