Abandoned Writers Cafe

A Poem by Relic

Empty rooms in empty halls.

Accounts silent - long abandoned
the words bankrupt
vacant fronts of creativity
washed over; hollow; run down.

Verbs sway on rusted hinges
the strains of old poems
cross pages like tumbleweeds.

Profiles shuttered - desolate
unopened for years, collect dust
while messages to forgotten friends
go unanswered

I still visit the profiles of old friends here, some that I know seldom if ever, revisit the site. Others are departed from life itself. I revisit their comments on my posts on other sites as well. I'll find one and say, well, wasn't that nice? This is eloquently poignant. I enjoyed and I relate. F.

As do I. They are like monoliths on a partways barren land.

Oh man guilty as charged - I was uninspired for years so there has been major dust collecting in my profile - life pulls us in so many directions it’s hard to keep up sometimes (plus I have a short attention span and seek other ways of expressing myself) siggghhhh!

It's bound to happen, Carolynn. Thanks for the review.

Thank you, Duke. I appreciate your review.
So what can be done to revive it...? Encourage talent, bring back the focus on real writing. Shun people who use this forum for malingering, networking for the wrong reasons, ranting on personal issues. I think it can be done. Good luck.

Thanks for the review, Pestonjee.
Ahh I know this feeling. Many have left a few have passed on. Some I’m in contact with on the outside

The despondency in this piece hurts, T. And the truth of it even more so. I don't know why I came here today . . . have been reading old msgs from 12 yrs ago[!] -- working backwards, checking on any long-time friends still around. Thank you for not deleting me. Your words still grace the page with emotions that yank my heart with their startling insight. This is exactly how it feels to come here sometimes. And I apologize for my contribution to these thoughts. But you've never been forgotten. x

Hey Relic long time no see... Not sure if you'll remember me? I've been gone awhile mainly because I've been living with Writers Block... I definitely see what you mean. I'm looking on here and don't see many that I know...

Loved this poem by the way... You tend to paint picture with your words... Something all great writers do... This time around I hope I'm back...

This piece has received a staggering number of views and an equally impressive number of reviews.
Deservedly so.
Sadly, though, most members probably left because they felt they were unwanted; others are,
sometimes, overwhelmed by the sheer volume of work required to keep up with enthusiastic
acceptance. Any who stop producing when they leave WC were never true writers or poets,
in the first place.
Apparently, Relic, you feel deeply and play, well, with others.
Not all do.
Heartrending poem.

Thanks very much for your thoughts, FJ. I appreciate it. :)
Relic, this is such a remarkable visual and poem of what we not only see but feel. Guilty, I am (for months). Still, I've felt what you described when I see a writer/poet has closed his/her account. We've lost some extraordinary writers since I joined in late 2017. I often wonder where they've gone, and if they're publishing online or print. Few realize the inspiration we miss with their absence, and that's what you've captured so well here. Thanks for sharing this one with those who remain.
