A poem about cutting

A poem about cutting

A Poem by Relic

I think about it constantly.
I dreamed about it nightly.
They say it's bad
but I can't stop myself.
Somehow, It helps me release.
Some friends of mine
mentioned it,
and I felt the craving.
That night, in the dark,
I walked downstairs
and went to the drawer
to find the sharpest knife.
One that would slice
quick and easy.
When I found it,
I indulged myself...

Mmm, chocolate cake.

Thanks Honeypot, wherever you are. PS. I realize cutting is a serious issue. I held a girl's lacerated arm once. This is my cathartic release.

You better hurry, there's only a couple of pieces left. ha
Very interesting write, I was intrigued by the title and found myself drawn in... I was a bit uh, thrown by the chocolate cake line... My first reaction was to chuckle, kind of a randomness to it, but then saw the link between the indulgence... Lack of sleep, I guess, made that spin a little bit longer in the comprehension cycle than normal.. Wonderful read.

This gives new meaning to "comfort food"
Just like self-cutting, food releases endorphins, making this a perfect analogy. Dark and witty. Loved it.

Oh yeah, thanks. :)
Although you might have meant this poem in a comical way. There is some literary genius in the fact that the intended cutting of oneself could have been induced by the want for chocolate cake. Very common in people with EDNOS or any other self-harm community. I appreciated it from that point of view. Also, from the humor.

Thanks very much C.Jayne.
You take the reader from the intense imagery of one who is a cutter and is seeking relief, if only for a brief time, tell of the thought process, the need for it, the desire as it mounts and how you must allow it to have its way with you...........and then
Delightful, sinfully delicious cake is splayed open for your desire to be fulfilled - ah, so very clever!
I only hope the object of your desire was "oozing" indulgent, velvet icing!
On a more serious note - God help those who must cut to release the pain that is no longer bearable! If only a piece of cake could end their pain!!

ha, you have my thanks.
Wow, this actually reminded me of my past where I had dark feelings of cutting and other deathly impulses. The chocolate cake part made me laugh, but yes cutting is a serious issue. I always say use the pen knife on the paper wrist [notebook] that way at least most of your feelings can be from ink bleeding onto paper instead of blood. Enjoyed reading this.

Paper always corresponds to the soul's release better than blood dripping from a wrist. Thanks Psych.. read more
Wasn't expecting that Relic! You're a nutter, it is a serious dilemma that many people suffer, let them eat cake, what a grand solution. ;-)
