A poem about cutting

A poem about cutting

A Poem by Relic

I think about it constantly.
I dreamed about it nightly.
They say it's bad
but I can't stop myself.
Somehow, It helps me release.
Some friends of mine
mentioned it,
and I felt the craving.
That night, in the dark,
I walked downstairs
and went to the drawer
to find the sharpest knife.
One that would slice
quick and easy.
When I found it,
I indulged myself...

Mmm, chocolate cake.

Thanks Honeypot, wherever you are. PS. I realize cutting is a serious issue. I held a girl's lacerated arm once. This is my cathartic release.

Relic,

a clever and witty write that does make a play on words that some may not take quite so lightly, but part of the healing process in any life is that of finding humor in the very midst of pain ... Well done!

You sure did have me going! Going straight to where you were leading. Then I actually felt palpable relief when I landed in the icing of your poem! Whew. Saved me from having to write about painful things I know not of, but for the poetry of those who hurt. Excellent poem. One of many relics I expect to....

It's a serious issue and sometimes people seem to feel relief while doing it. Thanks for writing and sharing this!!!!!

Thank you for reading.
Wow,this amazing and I love how you did the ending. :)

My mum showed me her scars to explain how talking to the blade about my problems isn't the way to go.

Perhaps the witty finish melts into the build up.. is more of a warning than a craving? Your posts so often have a sting in the telling... in a way i think this is one yet.. am smiling at your cleverness.

Many thank yous for sharing the cake..

Always a pleasure..
sneaky aren't you ... i was so hooked it is an addiction many suffer from ... overloaded pain .. so tragic ... not a syndrome to be made light of but then i read your note and understand ... sometimes trying to help takes a toll as well ... hope you and she are doing well!!! love and peace

.................. :)
The statistics around this is staggering, hard to take, and yet I have heard from many a source that cutting as a form of release, or more,as a way to feel alive... to see the blood, feel the pain as the confirmation that you can feel... it is so heart wrenching to understand this....

I am of the opinion that it is important to write about this, not from a condemnation point of view, and yes even with some humor helps people who cut... helps them to know others not only care but understand.

Thanks for your poem relic, nicely done

Thanks for reading it.
I loved this so much! It was dark but witty. I hope to see more work like this in the future!

if only all who get to this point, would only do this kind of cutting, and indulge, rather than hurt themselves...you took a really sad topic, and gave us a smile and some hope that there could be alternatives.

If only the outcome here could become a trend. Thanks Jacob.
