Your Only Casualty

Your Only Casualty

A Poem by Chad
"

You ask in vain.

"

You’ve broken my heart once before. Yet, you ask to give me more. More heartbreak, heartache. My heart’s at stake here. The only thing my fragile heart needs is a fragile hand to help it heal. I feel as if a battle rages inside me, and the casualty count slowly increases. Not long before the battlefield itself is destroyed and there is nothing left to fight over. No one left to kill. No more pain to feel. Yet, you ask to give me more. More pain, disdain. I’m going insane here. There’s nothing left in me but hate. Lately I feel as if a battle rages inside me, and the casualty count slowly increases. Like the pain I feel. Yet, you ask to give me more. More heartbreak, heartache. My heart’s at stake here. You ask in vain.
