Sweet surrender

Sweet surrender....Its kind of a tacky name, though...

 

The pistals fire...

You kiss me goodnight

The engines roar...

You tell me you love me

I tell you I hate you...

You ask me to marry you

And gunfire sounds...

I say yes

The bombs are dropping...

You buy me a ring

The sirens are sounding...

We get married

Blood is dripping...

You hold my hand

People are yelling...

And all the while...

People are dying.

We're together.

 

Author's Note

This just goes to show that while other people in this world are in agony, we are safe. War, violence, vanity, sadness...Just because other people are in for it, doesn't mean we have to be dragged down too...

I love the concept of this poem. it could be tied together a little better, maybe perhaps one point of view coul rhyme while the other doesnt. but this is really good otherwise...

Wow! This was an incredible write! I haven't read anything this thought-provoking for a really long time, so I definitely admired the fact that you were able to do that in such a clever and unique way. The structure of this piece with the juxtoposition and intertwining stories was definitely a highlight of this poem, and really worked as an advantage in emphasising the difference between the two situations. To me, this poem is very two-way expressed.. I enjoyed it a lot, its very short, and yet shows the life time of both love and happiness, and war and despair.. Very eye-opening, this poem had a lot of weight! :)

this is a great poem, what i thought worked well was the author's note comparing the relationship between a governed mentality as a probability
of its emotional attachment to a societal based reaction to such
tragedies such a 9/11---
this is an awsome poem in metaphor, comparing the way a bloody relationship would bloom, the ravages of war marries the winner in the end. and everyone is left bloody. Great concept, awsome job, keep it up
