Chapter twenty four

Hmmm.....

       By the time Blake was done visiting sophie at the hospital, closing hours were over. I was kinda mad because I really wanted to see her, but I could'nt coax the nurse to let me see her, because I was'nt family. So, I decided to confront my mother instead.

 

      When I got back home to my apartment, it was late at night. Sophie's parents asked if I wanted them to drive me home, but I refused. I wanted some time to think about things, and walking home was perfect for that. So anyways, when I walked in the door, I saw my mom, sitting on the couch, holding a can in her hand. But it was'nt a beer can, it was a pepsi can. I started to walk over to my closet, when she said, "Alex?". I turned around, expecting her to tell me off, when she said, "Sit down". I sat down next to her and waited for her to speak, but she just sat there. "When I met your father, I was fifteen years old", she began," We met at a public annual dance. I was a freshman in high school, while he was a senior. As soon as I laid eyes on him, I fell in love. And do you know why I loved him?" She asked. I shrugged and she said, "For one thing, he had these big, beautiful blue eyes. For another, he was a tough guy. He played by his own rules. And another was that he seemed lonely".She paused, and tears of sadness streamed down her face. I had never seen her cry, and that was the saddest part about it. She dried her eyes with her sleeve, and then continued. "I had gone to the dance alone, so I sat down and he came over to flirt with me. Ater that, we were together. We were very close, but we never told eachother that we loved eachother. Even though we did. A week after we met, I invited him over to my house to meet my parents. But, of course, my father did'nt approve of this new boy friend of mine. He told your father that he was banished from ever seeing me again, so I ran away with him. a few weeks later, I got pregnant with you". She looked at me and then looked away, as if ashamed of herself. "Nine months later, You were born in the back seat of your fathers pickup truck. We did'nt reach the hospital in time, so your father had to deliver you, right there in the parking lot of the convenience store. When he held you for the first time, his eyes lit up and he cried tears of joy. He seemed so happy. he was obsorbed in you, for those first two days of you being alive. As soon as he handed you to me for the first time, he said, 'Alex. lets name her Alex', and that was that.

He loved you so much. But for some reason, two days later, he left. He just packed his baggs, and then ran away with some other blonde tramp. I never saw him again". She started sobbing. she cried, and cried, and cried. I held her like I was the mom, and she was the crying baby. I told her I forgave her. I told her that I was sorry I ran away without letting her explane the whole situation. I told her it was ok.

 

       The next day, I ran to the hospital. I ran, and ran, and ran, until I finally got there. when I walked in, a nurse greeted me, and I asked if she knew What room Sophie heart was in. She told me to go wait in the waiting room, because her grandparents were still in her room visiting her. So I sat there for ten anxous minutes until her grandparents finally left. When they did, I sprinted to her room on the second floor. I paused a minute before I nocked on the door. "Come in!" Sophie said. I walked in, and sat down in a chair, and our conversation started.
