Chapter twenty one

Alex and Sophie are being confronted by Alex's gang....

        "Hey Soyer!" Jesse yelled. A cold chill ran down my spine. 'What are they doing here?' I thought. the whole gang was there, all ten. Ten girls (ten, tough girls) against two. It did'nt seem fair. It was'nt fair. But I knew what was coming next, and I did'nt like it. Not one bit. "Look", I said, "We don't want any trouble, so just leave us alone, okay?" They just stood there, and glared at us, except Jesse, who was playing it cool. "y'know what soyer?" she began, "we're starting to think that you like this chick better than us". When Sophie heard that, she cringed. She looked pretty uneasy, standing there. For a second, I thought she was gonna puke! But then again, I thought I was gonna too. I looked Jesse right in the eye and said, "Jesse, I know what your trying to do, and I don't like it! So you better back off, and get a life!"

Some of the gang members went, "Ooooooohhh!", and some of them started laughing, like they thought this was a joke.

Jesse looked angry now, and that made me even more scared of her. Believe it or not, I had always looked up to Jesse. She was'nt a very good roll model, but she was tough, and brave. I had always wanted to be more like her. But not at that moment. At that moment I hated her.

"It does'nt matter weather you like it or not, Soyer", she said, "It does'nt matter! Infact, your the one who needs to get a life, and to stop going to that damn school of yours. Nobody wants you there anyways. Just face it Soyer, Nobody ever cared about you. Not your mom, not your dad, not even your teachers! Your way better off with us".

It hurt when she said that. In a number of ways. It was'nt that I thought she was wrong, because she was'nt. She was right. Nobody had ever cared about me. No one.  And I did'nt want to admit to that. Not to that. But I had to.

"Your right about one thing", I said, "Nobody ever cared about me. But you know what your wrong about? I'm not better off with you. I never was and I never will be".

Everybody went silent. Until Jesse finally said, "Thats it, Soyer. You had your chance to escape this, but you blew it. Come on girls, let's get um".

Just then, all the gang members started to form a circle around me and Sophie.

Then one of them pushed me onto the ground, and then they all started to jump us. Both me, and Sophie. Some of them were holding me down, and the others were beating Sophie up! I heard her crying for help, but there was nothing I could do. I was defencless against them. Just then, some of the girls who were holding me down, went after Sophie, leaving me plenty of time to sock the girl who was holding me down in the face. I pushed her off me, (bloody nose and all), and started to fight some of the other girls. I punched a 13 year old who was at he back of the circle around Sophie, and nocked her clean out. I tried to get through the small crowd without being noticed, but it was nearly impossible. "Stop it", I screamed, "Get off of her!".  But no one listend. It seemed like they had simply forgotten about me, and now they were after Sophie. Then, I saw the blood. It was all over the street of the alley. and it was all over Sophie. "No", I screamed, "You can't do this". Then, out of the blue, Jesse came up to me and punched me in the face. And then, everything went black.
