Old WillowA Poem by James StarnesMy thoughts beneath A weeping Willow Tree in Duneden Fl. one sunny afternoon in 1990
Old Willow 7/17/90 Weep my weeping willow, with tears falling in a strand. While leaves blow around gently, in this place that you stand. I have often wondered long, about why it is you cry? As I’ve looked down to see, your tears where they lie. Could it be for the things, you’ve seen pass away? Children that have grown older, and stopped coming to play? Is it the new landscape, with that black parking lot? Where green grass once grew, that now lays there hot? Maybe it is the way, the whole world did change? Perhaps you weep of this, for it must seem strange? But fear not friend willow, these thoughts of the past. At least you are still here, with gentle shade to cast. © 2008 James Starnes |
