Didn't You Think?A Poem by Horcrux_PhoenixA poem based on my mentally abusive relationshipDidn’t you think 19 was too young To make me believe I was the one to love you? When insecurities plagued my youth and I still didn’t understand
the truth about love, And how it felt so good, like the highest of highs where the
sky was only a mile from my eyes. Didn’t you think 19 was too young To take my body and the air from my lungs with just one
simple, “My God, you are everything I dreamed of.” Just as quickly as I was hooked to the man you so falsely pretended
to be your true colors were presented to me in the form of the harsh words that
pierced my heart like a sharp dagger, “You’re getting way too fat to me.” Don’t you think 19 was too young For me to worry about where I’d gone wrong when I chose to
love you? When my thoughts shifted from our first date to “How am I
going to lose enough weight?” I finally realized that I had no use for you, with your
deceitful lies and your fabricated truths, with your tactless words and your
mental abuse. 19 was too young to understand the truth, but 23 is not too
old to say, “I’m leaving you.” © 2016 Horcrux_PhoenixAuthor's Note
