"A Star in the Dark"A Poem by MartinThis is a poem I wrote about depression and suicide. Visit the companion video here:
“A Star in the Dark”
Darkness and despair fill your
heart,
Tearing you apart.
You feel the world is against you,
Perhaps…better off without you.
You want it to end but,
Will your [will] bend?
Thoughts of suicide,
Hit like a tide,
Hit your mind’s eye.
Your thoughts have brought these
feelings,
Your thoughts keep you from seeing
[what’s true]
Let darkness and despair life away,
Like a bubble floating away.
You are part of a bigger picture,
This is true.
You have friends and family,
That deeply love you.
The darkness can blind us but,
We need not let it bind us.
This I must confess but,
Death is but a mess.
Without you,
Our world would turn blue.
There will never be another you,
My heart speaks true.
A star exploded,
This is [also] true.
Stardust came together to form you.
I must confess this,
You are just as precious.
Though your thoughts are dark,
A journey you must embark.
You are a star,
You have come so far.
You are a bright light,
With a hidden might.
You must fight to see the light.
You must fight for your life.
You must become the light.
