A Poem by Niall Madden

Faith.

Where man has blindly gone before,

a empty space filled with skittering ants.

Who have a void in their soul that Knowledge could fill,

Instead they gaze at the empty sky screaming

"Now it is all clear"

When they realise that they are not alone,

They enter a new Enlightened home,

A lurid mass of lunatics who believe.

Though they never see proof,

 aid consequentially received.

Yet all deny that they are not obscured nor deceived.

As the pursuit of Science,

A cold metallic fact.

Constantly lingers over the obfuscated Pack

While they screech

"this is a lie, we have a book, you cannot deny"

If aged parchment is a fact, I will believe.

When dragons dare attack.

the passing of time moves, the Clan

nowhere near as strong

in numbers nor in faith

when their own lives are at stake.

As the few begin to gather

bellowing into darkness

"forgive us for our sins"

if there really was a voice up there,

This poem would end in laughter.

Now, I am a Christian (actually, a believer, Christian seems to say belonging to a sect, rather than just believing), and this has not shaken me, and I don't care how insane you think I am, but I will judge this writing and give my thoughts forgetting I'm a believer for awhile. I think this illustrates a good point, one that can be argued on both sides, and is full of controversy. Both sides I think can present convincing evidence that their side is right to the person wondering which to choose having never chosen before. It was written from an excellent point of view, and really narked what Christians believe and boldly stated your own opinion. It was brutally honest, and true to its nature. I liked it. Now, as a Christian, I doubt that the Universe was created from a few explosions between dark and light matter and an explosion known as the Big Bang, as well as Evolution. I do think however, that even if it was, couldn't a God that is able to create something out of nothing able to create something as small as the Big Bang? I actually like to mix science and religion, with a general belief in what both preach, pretty much thinking science is just explaining what God has done, or is attempting too. Anyways, either way, great write man! Keep it up! And I really hope no judgemental "Christians" read this, because that's not what we're about. We shouldn't judge, because people have free will. I'm a firm believer in that. And just because they don't agree with us doesn't mean we can't be friends. The Bible says so. God says so. He just says we can't do what they do. Anyways, keep writing! :D

I liked the contrasts in this poem and its over all point. I feel though that more effort could be made on rhythm. I relies heavily on rhyme and not on the inbetween.

Thank you for bluntly stating the truth about faith. Having been raised in a Christian community, I understand how shattering it can be to break away. More difficult for me, however, was the frustrating way by which everyone who surrounded me clung to their faith, insisting that I do so as well. It is refreshing to hear this perspective honestly explained through art.

This is great. Serious, witty, and true.
(I'd comment on the Star Trek-esque beginning but ANTO beat me to it :P)

Second stanza: "Though the never see proof", methinks you meant "they" rather than "the".

You're welcome! Good, I'm glad:)
Wow Niall -
I liked the Star trek parody start - very cleverly done
The subject matter I'll not comment on because I have swung so many time between the polar opposites in my life that I am squarely affixed in the centre (I know ...I know)
As a poem it conveys its message loud and clear - the form is good and fluid and has good wit - no stumbles either my friend.
Im sure it'll be a hot topic
