The Lone PrincessA Story by Hope RoseThis is the book that comes after One Last Week, where Kana wakes up with her memories of being the Lone Princess. She finds love in the worst place possible.
I feel my back hit the wall and stifle a scream. I watch the advancing line of creatures stalk toward me and feel like this is the end. No one will know about me, my dreams won't come true. My family hated me, and then there was no one who knew of me. I don't know why I care, when I knew I would die on my own. I close my eyes and thank Janhm for the short life she gave me.
I brace myself for the attack that would kill me, but nothing happens. I slowly open my eyes and see that the creatures are gone, replaced by humans. Not much better, I think. "You, woman. Who are you?" A light, almost amused, voice speaks out from among the humans. I look at them, and suddenly I'm not sure what to say, but I speak before they kill me. "I am Kana Nightlock, of the Seventh Division." "Ah, really? You are from the place of legend? It is said that-" Another voice speaks up, louder and deeper. "Shut up, Imar. You don't know that she isn't a spy. Honestly, have I taught you nothing?" My eyes snap toward the voice, and I find a pair of gray eyes watching me. I crouch forward and snarl, feeling my anger start to bubble up and want released. When no one says anything else, I take my shot with the kid who first talked. I push myself away from the wall, letting instinct take over as my fingers turn into talons and my body is engulfed in flames. I snarl and rake my fingers across his chest, letting my claws dig into his chest and pierce his main heart before spreading my wings and soaring into the air. With an inhuman scream he falls to the ground, a pile of ashes taking his place. I beat my wings and watch the rest of them, already planning my next move. The second voice speaks up, though, and pulls me out of my planning. "If you don't want to explain yourself, then that's fine. We won't, however, attack you again. We have more sense than to attack you in your present form. I do, however, want to know if you are really what your power says you are." I look at him, slowly letting the flames die down but keeping them ready to use in case these people decide to attack. "What are you talking about? I have half a mind to rip you to shreds for coming this close to me." Which is true. We are so close that I would barely have to reach out to touch him. I feel off, like something before now was missing, but I don't know what it is. I snarl and dart around him and leap back into the air. "And for your information, I am the Lone Princess. You are to bow down to me!" I half-shriek before taking off and flying toward the house I use as a shelter. Chapter 2 I feel the ground start to shake and an up half a second later. I dart silently to the window to look and see what's going on- and freeze. The same things that chased me earlier are outside, attacking the peasants we keep around the Division. I feel my power start to race through my veins, but I manage to keep myself from combusting as I get dressed and head outside. Once out of the building, I climb to the top of the neighboring shelter and use a few well-placed fireballs to get their attention. With their eyes on me, I jump and snap out my wings while letting myself catch fire at the same time. Sensing their fear, I smirk slightly and dive toward one of them. They scatter, as I knew they would, but what happens next is what surprises me most. They stop and stand in place, turning into the people that were cornering me earlier today. I watch them, feeling my wings beat harder to keep me up while I'm still. Their leader looks up at me with a smile. "So beautiful," he murmurs. "Kana, come down. We won't hurt you, I swear. We had no idea you were here." Hearing the truth in his words, I nod and land lightly on the ground, my flames disappearing as I fold my wings back. His eyes never leave me, and I use this to speak. "Who are you, anyway?" I ask him. "I am Gar Myio, of the Eighth Division. I am also the leader of the Shadow Wolves. We have been looking for the Lone Princess for as long as we have been around. She is the one who created us in an attempt to get rid of her anger. Now, every time she is mad, a new one of us is created but with no memory as to who she is." I nod slowly and look at his pack. I can see the resemblance now, but before they were human to me. I snap my gaze back to him, giving him my bored look. "You're telling me what I already know, Gar. I remember when I created you, and you were a pup that never left my side. You would always dart around whatever room I was in, and I never once said anything about it. The night my first palace burned, sixteen thousand years ago, I fled, but lost you in the woods. Do you remember that?" He nods, and I go on. "For years now, you have been searching for me, and I you. But things are different now that I have found you. You are aware of the new laws in place, correct?" "Yes, m'lady. In order for you to reclaim your throne, you have to become the leader of Division Seven, or create your own Division, which would be Division Thirteen." "Well, you are somewhat right. I need someone behind me, now. Division Thirteen has been built and is ready to be enlisted in the Council."
