I Dwell On Books

I Dwell On Books

A Poem by Sumit Ganguly

My first book was a store of love
words were made of sound and touch
characters smiled and sung lullabies
I learnt to talk and run for the sun.

There was a flood of colors, letters,
sentence rules and social norms,
the book was slowly spreading wings
indoor merged with grey outdoor.

Just then a seed opens eyes,
world starts to melt and dance
music, painting, sea of words
become books to make me green.

O book, how I thank you dear!
You have taught me to get rich,
share the gems of treasure

just like a bosom friend.
