The Worst Kind of Dream

The Worst Kind of Dream

A Poem by Sarah Flanigan

The worst dreams
are the ones you have
about loved ones
who have already died.

You wake up
to the harsh realization
that it was all just a dream.

They are no longer here
to hug and kiss,
to hold your hand
while the two of you stargaze

You can no longer
eat ice cream
while watching Rent
and complaining about exes,
parents
and life in general.

And God,
what you would give for one more day,
one more hug,
one more kiss,
one more story,
one more smile,
one more song

But they already left this world
and they took a piece of you with them.

I'm an introverted bookworm. I tend to spend my days drinking far too much coffee and playing my ukulele too loudly. Life is strange and surreal, but also beautiful somehow. more..
