What I Learned in High School

What I Learned in High School

A Poem by Sarah Flanigan

1. No, he probably doesn't love you back.
2. Live your life in fear, and you'll never truly live.
3. Their opinion doesn't matter... not in the long run.
4. It's okay to not fit in with the popular people. Being in a band of outcasts is much more        fun anyways.
5. Never try to be someone you aren't
6. don't chop all your hair off just because a girl in homeroom told you to.
7. The little things matter just as much, if not more than, the little things.
8. Falling in love with someone who doesn't love you back hurts. But when everything's said and done, they won't even matter anyways.
9. It's okay to lie on your bed at night, listen to sappy love songs and wonder why no one ever seems to notice you.
10. Nothing is permanent, especially not high school friendships and romances.
11. Don't judge someone by the way they acted freshman year.
12. Band kids are actually pretty cool
13. You will regret some decisions you make, but there's nothing you can do about it now, so you may as well just let it go.
14. If it won't matter in the future, there's no use in worrying about it now.
15. it's perfectly okay to ask for help, but
16. Asking for help is terrifying. However,
17. Without help, things will probably only get worse.
18. Music solves everything.
19. Pizza and a best friend is the best way to spend a Friday afternoon.
20. If a teacher looks like she could be your sister, it's probably going to be a long semester.
21. Life is unfair, but death is even more unfair, especially when it takes the first real friend you've ever had.
22. Your teacher may just end up being your best friend. Give them some respect and a chance.
23. You were put here for a reason. If you're still here, there's still a reason.
24. Suicide may be an answer, but it's never a solution.
25. Mistakes will inevitably be made. you can either fret over them or roll with them and fretting over them won't get you anywhere.
26. No one is better than you are, but
27. You aren't better than anyone else.
28. Losing your grandma is just as hard as you think it will be.
29. Go for walks when it's snowing at night
30. There's no such thing as "too late to change"
31. Red wine tastes and feels amazing.
32. There will probably be many nights that consist of Buddy Holly and apathy.
33. Sitting in front of your grandfather's tombstone while you talk to him and watch the sunset together may just be the most powerful thing you ever do.

About
I'm an introverted bookworm. I tend to spend my days drinking far too much coffee and playing my ukulele too loudly. Life is strange and surreal, but also beautiful somehow. more..
