Beauty RedefinedA Poem by Sarah FlaniganYet another poem about beautyBeauty doesn't come from the makeup caked on your face. It isn't on the tag of your dress, and it is not a number on the bathroom scale. Beauty isn't in those shoes that make your feet want to cry, and it cannot be obtained by having a surgeon reconfigure your face. You can't gain it by denying your screaming stomach the food that it so desperately needs. Your beauty lies in the smile that you try to hide. It's in the freckles that you slather foundation over every morning. Beauty is your hand, outstretched, to help someone who has fallen. Beauty is those seemingly insignificant acts of kindness that you do, those small things that "don't matter". Beauty lies in the way that you live your life to help others. Industries and society will try to tell you different. This company will tell you that you need this product to make your skin look younger or this bra to look sexier or these pills to make you thinner and therefore, more attractive. You'll learn that this (ridiculously expensive) hair goop will completely change your life. However, they WON'T tell you the truth. (because it's not profitable) The truth is this: Your beauty is in YOU. So please, stop trying to hide it
