When you ReturnA Poem by Sarah FlaniganI wrote this as a reminder to myself. When you return, there will be no fanfare, no welcome wagon, no parade through town. When you return, there will be no crowd to meet you no red carpet rolled out for you no flower petals strewn at your feet. When you return, There will be no mobs lining the street to get a glimpse of you. No old friends calling to make dinner plans no party thrown in your honor. When you return, there will be dilapidated buildings, crumbling streets, evaporating sidewalks. When you return, There will be overgrown lawns, condemned houses and one rotting high school-still in use. When you return, there will be a broken hearted girl. her watering eyes will stare into yours and she will tell you to get out of her life forever. When you return, You'll remember why you left.
