Calypso

Calypso

A Poem by Honeypot
"

Just for fun

"

The strawberry sky turns to plum
While Calypso music’s steel drum
Caresses the frenzy filled crowd
Gyrating happily and proud

Electric rhythms fill the air
As summer breezes blow her hair
Ebony locks kiss her shoulder
Brown eyes smile, sinfully smolder

Strident hips tempt a frantic beat
Long limbs dance and sweat in the heat
Sitting on a flowered cushion
Children watch the show’s procession

What I like about this poem is its descriptions of minor eroticism, in the form of bodily movement--dancing, but at the same time, the audience caught by the performance are...children. Rather novel in approach. The descriptions truly are magical like Calypso's rhythms.

I enjoyed it Honey!

"Just for fun" and fun to read.
It got me reminiscing of many nights spent on a beach until the evening. Watching the sun set to that plum haha. I like that word... plum. It's fun to say.

Summer nights captured here. Many summer nights. Many beautiful, incredible and unforgettable nights.

Dancing=poetry in motion.

Wow, this is really good!
Calypso was the goddess to emprison Odiseous (I spelled that wrong. The guy from the Odyssey), right? Unless I've totally got the wrong person.
Anyway, the imagery was fantastic, and the twist at the end was brilliant, with the audience being children instead of who I had expected it to be. Also, children could represent innocence and youth, right? So, Calypso being an immortal goddess, the children could have stood for mere mortal human beings, rather than actual children-children. Just a though :)
Anyway, great write Honeypot!

I agree with Punishment about the erotic excitement of it... I easily pictured the sweating dancer's sexy movement and provocative glances.. then how cleverly we were brought back to the innocence of the little children watching.. 'on a flowered cushion'... charming!

I really enjoyed this piece. I can hear the music and feel the heat. Beautifully written.

The second stanza is my favorite, though the piece is solid through and through. Well done!

That is a very delightful piece that takes me away to a tropical paradise in my mind. A nice taste of fantasy.

Such a rhythm filled event, painted prose with a lovely flow and solid rhyme in refined poetic function,
a lively canvas meter brings the reader to a moment come to existance with tampico flavor the way
your passionate vibrant words step exotic and sensually light the way a beach dance would harmonize
the light under the flicker of a trident and a Calypso sun shadow, brilliant clarity, and talent

I enjoyed the image this created, transported in just a few well chosen words.

As a boy, I grew up listening to Harry Belafonte and his calypso music constantly. I can hear the rhythm of those days in this "moving" poem.
