The Juice of Life

The Juice of Life

A Poem by Honeypot

Driving west down Interstate-70
Past golden wheat fields waving in the wind
Like spools of velvet fabric
Rolling gently over mounds of hidden cherry blossoms,
My head buzzes with energy.
The wind blows my hair smacking rose colored sunglasses wildly
As Lenny Kravitz blares on the radio making me tap my hands
On the steering wheel, happy, but slightly off beat.
Nothing ahead of me but hundreds of miles of dreams,
And behind me mountains of regret.
In my heart lightness grows as my future looms up ahead.
As of yet I can’t see it, but the signs are in the distance.
Its close enough to smell and it’s wonderful.
Fresh as spring rain with hints of citrus
Bright as the sun and plump with the juice of life.
When I arrive I’ll pull over and take it all in,
But until I do I’m going to sit back,
Press my foot on the exhilarator
And enjoy the ride.

I love that the best times of life are still ahead. I bet this is one of the first times someone has written a poem having to do anything with western kansas and I-70. The images of the rolling hills and endless rows of wheat swaying in the breeze is a beautiful one though. Just don't get close to running out of gas out there, eh?
Loved the fresh as spring rain with hints of citrus. Also loved the hundreds of miles of dreams ahead.
I love the optimistic look at what is next to come, and I agree with that. I can't wait to see what comes next.
Nice job Mrs.

An appealing parable of life's journey - and the images along the way were delightful...' 'spools of velvet fabric' was striking, the wind 'smacking' your glasses.

'Plump with the juice of life'...Had me thinking wild thoughts, *smiles*

Freedom I love this piece. This piece was what life is about but sometimes we forget to enjoy the ride. Excellent!
