A Day at the Range

A Day at the Range

A Poem by Honeypot
"

I love playing golf. I also despise it. This is a poem about the love/hate relationship I have with the game.

"

Birds chirp in the distance.
A breeze gently blows
As I adjust my grip.

                Woosh-TING

A ball rifles past.
The man beside me
Shields his brow as it sails.

I watch as it lands.
Awestruck at the distance
Amazed it went so straight.

                Woosh-TING

Another ball flies,
Hit with a perfect swing.
Stunned I watch it soar.

With a prayer and a wish
I whisper below,
“Please, just like his went.”

My fingers tighten
Around the firm shaft
Caressing the grip.

Smoothly it swings back.
Eyes on the dimples
My club thrusts forward.

                THUNK

…Man, I hate golf.

Great write. I love the ending, what a crack up. I think everyone who has ever tried to play the game of golf will be able to relate to this, except maybe Tiger. Almost everyone will be able to relate to the love hate relationship too.
Nice visuals leading up to it also.
The beauty of golf is one good shot keeps you coming back. All those junky ones get jumbled together and the good one stands out.
Nice work. Nice humor.

Lol I am not real sure I know anything about golf. But the poem in itself was really well written and flowed well. Great piece!

This part stuck out for me cause it had a hint of naughtiness to it ;-)

Great poem I like it.

Never tried golf I'd be far more likely to brain myself with the clubs.....

Made me laugh on a dark day and I love the ending good punchline.

Peace

A very nice read. Not perfunctory and riddled with cliche as is so common. It's not an attempt, but an accomplishment.

Kudos

Thanks for the share. I will now hold you responsible for my procrastination as I put off work for an hour or so at the range.

I should have caught it the title and picture but I got as far as as I adjust my grip and my mind was racing off in a different direction . foolish me!

Cleverly written and so well done from birdie to boogie tee time will never look quite the same

The joy and struggle of a challenging game is conveyed well. Loving it to hating it. But always wanting to do it again! Made me grin...and for that, I thank you!

Cheers!
