Tangled Sheets

Tangled Sheets

A Poem by Honeypot

Tangled sheets twisted between damp limbs,
Hot in the early morning summer hours.
The crickets begin to quiet
As their songs fade from Nighttime’s memory.
Echoes of Etta James ring
In my ears as my mind
Dances through the night before
Remembering trembling sighs.
Flashes of strong fingers
Gliding over bare hips as
Love chills race along our backs.

I remember last night, the taste of your lips,
The smell of your skin - clean, manly.
Your heart pounding against mine
As I pull you close and call your name.

But as the morning light shines
Through the cracks in the blinds
Your side of the bed is empty.
Once again you’re gone before
The morning dew settles
And I’m left to wonder
When you’ll return home.

Great poem. Nice flow. Tells a good story. Has a bit of mystery to it. I think it is very hip with some Etta thrown in there, it gives it kind of a musical feel to it. Probably musical because I was really drawn to the lines "The crickets begin to quiet As their songs fade from Nighttime's memory." I really liked that musical image in my head.

I liked the entire poem. Start to finish, well thought out and excecuted wonderfully.

Wonderful, liked it very much. Reference to Etta James surprising, she just died in December at 80. Might check out my DARK APARTMENT, HARMONY, or AN OLD MAN'S DREAM. Loneliness is part of life.

I really like this. I like how your narrator assesses the moment, thinks back to the events that lead to it, and then rationalizes it all into a pattern. It goes from ethereal to nostalgic to complete resignation. Really good stuff. I'll definitely be reading more!

You have shared your sensual dreamtime with us in this beautiful piece of poetry, adding the beautiful sound of, "At Last" by Etta James, comes to mind in my interpretation, as if you are dreaming of that song and all of its meaning, but as you awake, you find it to be just that......only a dream of wishful thinking, longing and waiting. This is excellent.

Aww, the last few lines made my heart sigh. As if i was the one waking up to an empty bed. A great first line - Tangled sheets twisted between damp limbs, which set the tone for some lovely phrases/words - Nighttime's memory, Love chills... which gave such a soft, sexy imgae of lovers in their aftermarth. Loved it!!

I'm so happy I get to read your work again! :) I needed to be inspired! x
