Fireworks

Fireworks

A Poem by Michael Hof
"

Fireworks
Exploding with delight
Creating advanced murals
Across the night sky

Lends an odd silence
Mixed with ohhs and ahhs
From the passers by

Exploding in commemoration

To insist on memorizing a battle
long ago fought
by very brave
very generous people
Who held belief

That a future
Could be created

That the present was malleable
That society itself
Could be tossed out on its ear
Like a loud drunk
At a dingy bar

Men and women
Sacrifices they all made

Today still

Sad yet glorious
A knight atop a steed
A spartan warrior
An American soldier

Courage
It isn't a powerful enough word

And I know not a poet
Who could accurately
Create the feeling of gratitude
That an entire country feels

Here is my attempt

Thank you
