ForestA Poem by Michael HofMemories
it's dark
cold and raining drafty in the forest of my mind littered with creatures each grotesque and socially awkward the trees and vines gnarled and rampant from years of abuse I wander aimless searching for that lost memory desguised as a leaf or a branch perhaps My torch is on its last legs And I too will be snuffed out soon because of this typhoon visiblity is small and the chorus of meandering nothing deafens me I power through my machete brandished I finally found it!!!! You A tree in a clearing an oasis in this lush desert I hack off a branch with my trusty machete and see that time a picnic table a stereotypical checkerboard sheet and sandwiches an awkward boy sits at the same table as the impossibly beautiful princess They share a meal as she speaks of beautiful things in her beautiful life as soon as it is found the memory dissapears taking the clearing and your tree with it I will continue I'll find it again and see you smiling if only one last time © 2013 Michael Hof
