The Hospital

The Hospital

A Chapter by Kristen Marie

My eyes slowly opened and I squinted at the bright light hanging over my head. I looked around only to see bleach white walls and one large window on my left. The tile floor mocked me with the simple patterns I couldn't understand because my eyes were still blurry. Still dayzed. I sat up and noticed I was in a small bed, and like everything eles in the room it was white. Cream white sheets, pillows, and blankets.

My eyes were beginning to clear and I noticed a tube in my arm. In fact there was one in each arm, and wires, lots of wires. Some attached to my head, some on my chest, and some on my arms and legs. I was scared, I had no idea where I was and I could feel my heart begin to race. Just then I heard a beeping that seemed to correspond with my heart beat. I looked to my left following the sound and my eyes came upon what I thought was a heart monitor. "Yes," I thought to myself, "that's what it is. A heart monitor." I started to pull the tubes and wires off. Suddenly, the heart monitor let out a long continuing beep. I new that is what happens when the person hooked up to the monitor dies. Franticly I checks my pulse, a nice steady heart beat. I calmed down and pushed the off button on the machine.

I got up and shivered as my bear feet hit the freezing tile floor. I was wearing what looked like a long rap-around dress made of some scratchy fabric. It was ( of corse) white, but it also had tiny baby blue spots. Slowly I walked to the window; carefully placing one foot in front of the other since I was still a little dazed. Looking out the window I could tell I was in a tall building, probably on the fith or sixth floor. The building was made of maroon colored bricks, fairly new with no cracks or vines. There was a wall that extended horizontally over the entrance (like a cover for when it rained or snowed) that was also made of bricks. Streched out about one fourth of a mile ahead was a large parking lot filled with cars neatly lined up in perfect rows. The parking lot was lined with trees on the right and left side. But towards the front was what looked like a main road. Cars were racing by like they were in a rush to be somewhere. Then I saw the ambulances parked in front of the building. "A hospital" I bearly managed to get out; it seemed as though I hadn't used my voice in a while. "Yes, that's it, I'm in a hospital."

I stumbled back to the edge of the bed as the news hit my like a brick. "How the hell did I get here?" I thought. I closed my eyes and try to remember what had happened to me. After what felt like an eternity, the memeories started to flash through my mind like a slideshow.

A midnight black car, the same color as the sky, closely followed behind me at a very high speed. Shots, three or for rang out through the night and were followed by three thuds. Then the image went into a spiral. The next thing I saw was the steering wheel, I couldn't move. Two men, one with brown hair and hazel eyes, the other with beach blond hair and percing blue eyes stud out side my car. I will never forget their faces. The brown haired man push me back into my seat. Blood everywhere and distant voice, " She'll be dead before anyone finds her. Let's go." The screech of a car pulling away. Then blackness.

Just as my flash-back came to an end I felt a warm hand on my shoulder. I stod up, shocked. "Miss?" a tall, brown haired, and quite attractive doctor stood in front of me. "Miss, I'm so glad to see your awake, but we have to get you back in bed." "No" I said quickly, " I have to leave, right now." I didn't know what I was saying. It was like someone eles had taken over, forcing me to say and do thing that i didn't want to. "I'm sorry miss," replied the doctor, "I can't let you do that." I started to walk passed him towards the door but he grabed my arm. "Let me go, you don't understand. They will find me here." "No one is going to hurt you" he said, "Not here. Here it's safe, please lie down." He grabed my arm tighter as I tryed to pull away. Why was I fighting him? Who will find me? Where do I plan to going? "LET ME GO!" now I was screaming, I couldn't help it. I felt like a ghost as I watched my self scream and fight for no reason. "THEY'LL FIND ME, THEY'LL KILL ME, PLEASE!". Who will find me!? Who is trying to kill me!? Why am I saying these things!? "CATHY, I NEED A SETITIVE NOW!" The doctor had to yell to be heard over my ranting and raving. I, or whatever had taken over me contiued. "THEY WON'T STOP UNITL I'M DEAD! PLEASE, LET ME GO! THEY'RE COMING, PLEASE YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!" A nurse, I'm guessing Cathy, stepped into the room with a needle and two men with large muscles in white suits. The two men in white suits picked me up by my arms and roughly lied me down on the bed. My control-less body punched and kicked at a hopeless attempt to break free of their hold. "Good," I couldn't tell but I belive it was the doctor speaking. "now don't hurt her. Hold down her arm so I can put in the needle." The man on my right force my arm to lie flat on the bed. Seconds later I felt a sharp pinch and the men's grip on me lossened. I tried to get up but my eyes began to sag and my body went limp. As my eyes began to close the last thing I saw was the doctor right above me. And as I slowly began my journey into unconcenceness I heard his fading voice proclaim "You are safe here, everything will be ok....." Then the world faded to black.
