Red Ash

Red Ash

A Poem by Jen Ro

There are bones in the walls of our foundations.
There are stones in the soles of our shoes.
I am bound by the breaths of creation
And devastation, and forced to choose.

I, phoenix, rise from the ashes
Of my own fiery demise.
Fly, phoenix, fly as it catches
The flint and the steel of your eyes.

There is fire in the halls of our sanctuary.
There is mire where aspiring feet fall.
The heavens have become a little scary
With the burning of a beckoning call.

I, phoenix, rise from the ashes
Of my own fiery demise.
Fly, phoenix, fly as it catches
The flint and the steel of your eyes.
