'Twas The Night Before SeasonA Poem by MadiA cowboy/hunter's version of 'Twas The Night Before Christmas.‘Twas the Night Before Season ‘Twas the night before season When all through the tent Not a hunter was stirring Not one was yet spent The horses were tied on a high line with care In hopes that the hunters got skunked out this year The hunters were all nestled, snug in their cots While the zip locked cheddar cheese attempted to rot With Ollie in his union suit And Pete in his wool socks They had just passed out from drinking whiskey on the rocks When all of a sudden there arose such a clatter They sprang from their cots to see what was the matter Away to the woodstove they flew like a flash Unzipped the canvas and threw back the flap When what to their wondering eyes should be But an 8 by 8 bull which made Pete have to pee With tall thick beams and tines that were like steel This bull almost caused Ollie’s bad vision to heal More rapid than bullets up to the camp he came The hunters were excited and the horses the same Pete grabbed his gun and shot at him from the door Ollie grabbed his to shoot at him some more Before you knew it there was no ammunition And the lousy ol’ hunters were better off to go fishin’ While drunk and sleepy the last shot they could take Was at the Game Warden which was a big mistake In prison they sat while in their minds still a fresh That gigantic bull, still living in flesh So to all you hunters you better watch out For that 8 by 8 bull is still lurking about Some hunters say he still is alive So keep under cover and save your own hide © 2012 Madi |
