The ExplanationA Poem by Hilary AdamsI’ve never been one for sappy romances, or delayed gratification, or wrapping paper, for that matter. I hate that tingling in my feet whenever I feel I’m about to fall off a precipice, and I don’t believe that people who consistently get the short end of the stick magically become happy.
Yet there you are, on one be-corduroyed knee, telling me that something I firmly believe is not, in fact, true.
So unless that tiny little box you’re holding contains a spare quarter for me to do my laundry, or the missing back from one of my favorite earrings, I’d rather you didn’t open it, because if it’s what I think it is, I know I’ll stop believing everything I believe, and I’m still not sure if happiness is really worth the risk of disappointment.
Oh! Now why on Earth did you do that? © 2013 Hilary AdamsFeatured Review
