Twigs and Hearts

Twigs and Hearts

A Poem by HighBrowCulture

I was looking through my memory yesterday

When I came across you

Sitting cross-legged in the passenger seat

Smoking my last cigarette and laughing

Because it’s all hocus pocus anyway

When I realized that my mistake wasn’t falling in love

It was leaving.

carried on the whiff of cigars, musk and lemon that you were enveloped in, a sad picture of me, walking away, amidst rows of cold stone graves, emerged on the blackness of my eyes. and i knew, i just had to blink, just like i just had to breathe.
it's such a poignant and shattering verse that it conjured vivid memories. stunner.

It's funny how one memory of a random event can cause us to regurgitate suppressed emotions. Great write!
