Firefly

Firefly

A Poem by Robert Tusitala O'Neill
"

An homage to a show that should never have been cancelled!! (Definitely well-liked by its supportive audience!)

"
Flitting through black skies
The reevers always searching
The cast and crew survives
A wicked corporate besmirching

Firefly, why, oh why?
How quick you fall
After flying so high
Then Serenity was no lullaby

When have we seen
Characters so original?
Interactions so unique
And a Sci-Fi treat as individual?

An aristocratic prostitute,
A hippie girly mechanic,
An all-powerful but helpless woman,
A captain less diplomatic

Interracial couples
In a Wild West Spacecapade
Where the government's newest weapon
Escapes within the bandit trade

Will ever again such an interposition
Occur with such natural flare?
I'd wish for a chance of a remake
If I thought any producer would dare

But alas it was just a dream interaction
Of just the right talent in one place
Such ideas only play off one another
When tension contains just a trace...

Of goodwill, of levity
Of hope in non-conformity
...Of spark, of social consciousness
Of charming anachronistic alacrity

That pioneer spirit
Extended into space
That still has a conscience
But won't shove it in your face
