Don't Miss MeA Poem by Robert Tusitala O'NeillTo my dedicated friends!
Don't miss me while I'm gone
I don't abandon those I love I come back like the rising sun The night may come ...But you are none forsaken I wasn't blessed with regularity I wasn't endowed by my creator with a chariot to ride across the sky I pick my path with naked feet, feeling every rock on my way I see all your kindnesses as I crawl across the face of the Earth The strength you give me is sustenance to my soul Yet I get there at a pace all my own It's not my fault if the man behind the shimmering curtain of Heaven Gave me a clockwork heart that doesn't keep time This tin man yearns for a real heart like yours Please don't ask that I do tricks for your crumbs -I don't need them! I ask only what you believe I deserve Think not of obligation or payment I vow to live in the poverty of your estimation I will not be clothed in riches, even if you would ask it of me I'm a different sort of man, taking refuge in humility Give me the space of your altruism Let me fly weightless in your good graces Remember I am grateful for every drop of love you pour in my pockets And don't miss me while I'm gone ...No more than you miss yourself while you sleep! © 2014 Robert Tusitala O'NeillAuthor's Note
