Where I Stand

Where I Stand

A Poem by Robert Tusitala O'Neill
"

This is my first poem to my ex-girlfriend -POST BREAK UP- yet posted here, and it was also written here, so look at it as a kind of first draft.

"
I still love you
I won't condescend to the truth of that
I won't break down my love with a wrecking ball
Not when I built this spire to Heaven so honestly
The years of my best work, delicately joined
With such care, each finial set firmly in stone
Rock solid foundation, where I encased my feet in cement

As you topple your statues of me
Dragging them through the street
I am looking at the buttresses and arches
Which supported all our love
I can't break the keystone
I can't bring myself to destroy
I still love you
