Once in a LifetimeA Poem by Robert Tusitala O'NeillThis is not a poem...My first prose on this site.
If you had only one day to spend with the love of your life,
Would you spend it dreaming of a lifetime together, Or would you spend it enraptured, entangled, in love? Because how could you accept never seeing that someone again? If you debauched yourself in full-on enjoyment, Wouldn't it seem like defiling something sacred? Yet if you sat there asexually holding hands, Wishing for more, and fantasizing... Would THAT be the more wretched fate? Is the fantasy more than the reality? Or is feeling it -REALLY FEELING IT- The most important thing of all? Would you try to freeze him/her in your mind? Or hope to forget and move on? Despite knowing it could never be better... If you had but one day, and that day alone What would you do with your ideal love? And how would you honor that memory? © 2013 Robert Tusitala O'NeillAuthor's Note
