Georgia peaches

Georgia peaches

A Poem by Hester Grey

our georgia peaches
kept us nourished in the heat
our gospel songs kept us
happy
the train kept moving
fast along the tracks
and we found each other
in a foreign land

we never expected to fall in love
to have our lives changed forever
but those sweet georgia peaches
opened wide our hearts
and we became as one

throughout those long 9 months
we were there for each other
each one always ready to do
and be for the other
and when time came to say goodbye
no one else has ever cried as much
as we two did

but forever in our souls and hearts
our love lives on
when we hear that soulful singing
or those sweet georgia peaches eat
