Beneath Contempt

Beneath Contempt

A Poem by Austin Blay
"

This examines the decay of faith and how religious practitioners contradict their teachings.

"

Verse:

What have you done?

Running through the night

Whispering with a dagger

Conceived in faithless illusions

Where will you go?

Dreams will reject you

Nightmares enslave you

Punishment has passed

Does your “Savior” agree?

Yet you still continue

Bite this pain

And forget the misery

Is this pain deserved?

Make a decision

To live silently

Or end it all

Chorus:

Life comes

Another ideal lost

You should fear yourself

Drowning decisions in hypocrisy

Hold your head above these waves

Your soul is trapped

Beneath Contempt

Verse:

What have you done?

Deep down you know

Understanding nothing

Yet you hate the opposite

Where will you go?

Climbing Contradictions

To stand above your mistakes

Only to Alienate others

Does your “Savior” agree?

Holier than thou tactics

To escape your own sin

Transformed into cowardice

Is this pain deserved?

A moral code decays

Yet justice remains

Escape is not the answer

Breakdown:

It appears that you never stood for anything

Rational thought patterns abandoned

Do you understand the weight you hold

To destroy yourself in an instance

Alienate the instigator and purge

The thoughts of your own misconceptions

Delight at the pain and revel

You are the same yet preach differences

Chorus:

Death Comes

Another ideal lost

You should fear yourself

Drowning decisions in hypocrisy

Hold your head above these waves

Your soul is trapped

Beneath Contempt
