Life after Forty!

Life after Forty!

A Poem by Dr Sharmila Parajuli
"

My experiences of life after I crossed 40 few years back!

"
Just as you had thought that everything will get sorted
All the truth, health and happiness are but distorted!

Just as going to sleep becomes a real struggle
So does waking up with body aches and pain is a big trouble!

You have to act like being young when taking care of your ailing parents
And, be a friend to your kids so as to avoid many arguments!

Sometimes, it's like constantly running around in the sports field
You are giving your best yet, you do not understand what was being concealed!

So much so that even when the physical and mental health take a toss
You are constantly reminded of the boundaries that need not be cross!

You have waited so many years to visit some place or follow your passion
Yet, feel so guilty when you thing you are deviating from your responsibilities seeing the family's reaction!

Even when your patience and respect were being tested time and again and you maintained them with a smile
What people forget is that good hearts too have limits and even when your energy is draining, you have to be agile!

There are bits and pieces of yourself scattered in all the corners of your workplace and home
It's a never ending story of hardships and survival and don't always have to be the hormone!

What I've noticed is that your friend circle however becomes very small
And, no one notices about how you sing, dance or play basketball!

It's always said that age is just a number
You have to live life one day at a time and at intervals let your soul rest in deep slumber!

Author's Note

Dr Sharmila Parajuli
There is this one statement in Nepali called "Chalis pugepachi ramaula", means after you cross forty, you can enjoy life to the fullest without any guilt, fear or shame. But, my experiences are completely different. So, just sharing my thoughts and emotions on the same to my friends
