UNREQUITED LOVE!!!A Poem by Dr Sharmila ParajuliOne sided love- story of one of my closest friend from med school put in wordsMemories of the first day I entered the medical college are still vibrant And I had dreams of becoming a medical doctor as every single aspirant The first time I saw you, you were exchanging pleasantries with my friends with a smile My heart started beating very fast and my world stopped for a while I had once randomly shared my feelings for you with my roommate And, she suggested me to suppress my emotions, focus on my studies and just to wait It was so painful to see you, chat and dance with every single girl in the class but not me The week days would go busy but I didn't know what to do with the sufferings when I'd be free I accepted the bitter truth that I was the complete opposite of beautiful Working hard and getting good grades in exams would still not be merciful My eyes kept following you through class rooms, library and to the canteen Your occasional "hello" encounters with me on some random day would help me remain serene Four and half years of hostel life suddenly came to an end My heart broke but I still smiled through my pain as I had by then, learned to pretend People were right when they said it is too miserable to be in one-sided love And, you have to console yourself saying that it is nothing more than a "casual crush" Two decades have passed since the graduation and everyone has moved on But, no matter how much I try, these sentiments have not gone Nothing hurts more than realizing he meant everything to you And, every day I ask god to grant me the strength to finally stop loving you
