Humor or disguised disrespect?A Poem by Dr Sharmila ParajuliThere is definitely a fine line between humor or disrespect or being funny and mildly insultingThere is a big difference between humor and disrespect And, you don't always have to "shove" the emotions under the carpet Starting with a light level of humor, a lot of truth is said in jest And, from becoming a minor nuisance, the problem can progress to be a real pest Sometimes, our everyday conversations are filled with some words or phrases that make you go lame And, you just can't decide whether to laugh along with everyone else or " let go of it" thinking about it as a meme Humor does not always have to be the repetition of sexist, racist or homophobic jokes And, I am not here to make a louder, higher and irrelevant croak People should know that there is a fine line between being funny and mildly insulting And, they should try to understand the difference between harmless fun and disguised disrespect, and for this; I am deeply soliciting You're right, I take hurtfulness and disrespect very seriously Similarly, as I take other emotions and opinions deliriously It's true, comedy is different for every person And, no one really knows or understands the others' situation But, I strongly object to the slang ways of saying "just kidding" and laughing it off This plethora of sentences are somewhat stale and are not suitable for every circumstance or safe knock off As a human being, we have a right to feel bad, vent or cry And, no one should weigh us down in the life's journey and our ability to fly
