The Playground

The Playground

A Poem by Jayna Burch

A young girl sits upon a swing
an empty swing beside her
Resting her head on its chain
her toe lightly scuffing the dirt below.

This playground was once a source
of joy and laughter and love
The sun shown bright and warm
as best friends enjoyed this world together.

The sandbox now sits empty
where dreams were once shared
Though their full potential
had yet to be reached.

The lonely teeter totter sits
where once each lifted the other up
Taking turns
helping the other to reach the sky.

So still sits the merry-go-round
where he would spin her round so fast
The feeling that tickled her stomach
forced her to giggle and smile.

Her best friend is gone
The sun no longer shines here
This playground no longer a source of joy
Alone she sits upon her swing.

Oh god, this was so sad Hermionesoul. That's the worst when a young person loses a loved one. They really can't comprehend what happened, and sometimes even look to themselves for blame, it is so very heartbreaking. This reminded me of when I lost my dad when I was five years old. This was a wonderful write.

Bless you and your family dear poet.
