Eulogy for a Broken HeartA Poem by HermioneFrost
There was a girl
Who thought she could escape The world around her And all its turmoil By becoming Part of the crowd. She'd sit on the street corner Of a broken road And her violin would weep As the people passed through Like phantoms. She promised herself Not to get involved, For trust snaps in two As easily as a twig And hurts With the strength Of a lightning bolt. There was a girl Who caught the eyes Of a stranger Across the alley As he walked over To feed a crumpled dollar To her tattered, Famished case. He smiled at her, And in doing so Made the first key turn In unlocking her heart. She told herself Not to give in, Uphold "Miss Independent" And safeguard your heart Because no one can ever, Ever Be trusted. There was a girl Who let go her inhibitions Little by little Like a rose losing its petals To the wind. Her palms would sweat, Words would stutter Whenever he came around, Even if He didn't say One word To her. She begged herself To come down from the clouds Before she fell Too hard, But her soul Was not easily Persuaded. There was a girl Who rose from ashes With the help Of a prince. He gave his word She would become His Queen of the Winter Night, And she Believed Him. She lost herself In his hazel eyes, Staring When he wouldn't notice, Which was more often Than not. There was a girl Who longed for His touch Or meerly A slight smile At least. He carried her to the Moon To marvel at the stars' Infinity, And when she turned around, He had vanished, Abandoning her In a remote Galaxy. She cried herself To sleep that night While the slit In her heart Stretched into A gaping hole That swallowed her Whole. © 2014 HermioneFrostAuthor's Note
