The Inner Passage

The Inner Passage

A Poem by HermioneFrost
"

I'm entering a contest and the theme is "inner passage". This will be the final version unless I get feedback on how to improve it. I'm not the best at poetry, so I value every piece of advice I get.

"
Bare feet scuffle down this old road
Embedded with broken rubble
Chapped with winter's unforgiving bite

Wind chafes my exposed skin
Corroding to the bone
Shedding the layers I despise so much

My eroding teeth chatter
Coarse hair thrashes against my pink ears
And into my dry tears

Once upon a time
This place was enchanting
And innocent

The sun sparkled in my eyes
As cherry blossoms floated
Into the emerald grass

Alas, it has been corrupted
Not by contamination or abuse
But by own emotions

Endlessly I walk
Searching for lost answers
For the end

I feel nothing inside me
My knees fall to the gravel
Sinking like my broken heart

There is no reason to continue
Along this timeless path
Into the oncoming storm

And so I surrender myself to the grayness
Begging the emptiness to consume my soul
Until all has deteriorated
And drifted away

How do you feel about the general theme that is portrayed? Are there better ways to rephrase certain lines? Can the title be improved?

I accept any feedback you are able to give.
